About Jane Hawley:
At 3 months pregnant, Jane traveled from Northern Michigan down to Oberland College to participate amont 60 individuals in the 25th Celebration of Contact Improvisation. At that moment she studied with the best: Steve Paxton, Nancy Stark Smith, Daniel Lepkoff, Martin Keogh and KJ Holmes. She camped on the Ohio prairie for 6 days and in a jam, spontaneously supported the weight of a 300# x-football player's decision to jump! Since then, she has been captured, released, amazed and absolutely intrigued by her own body's first home rule of expression, CONTACT!
Jane Hawley received her training from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre in New York and the University of Illinois earning the degree of MFA in performance and choreography. Performance opportunities have taken her to Eastern Europe and the ACDFA National Festival at the Kennedy Center where she received Dance Magazine's Award for Outstanding Performer. Performances also include the New York premiere of Bebe Miller's Sanctuary at the Merce Cunningham Space.
Hawley is deeply curious in the renovation of dance training and designed the "Movement Fundamentals" curriculum implemented into the Luther College Theatre/Dance department in 2001. The curriculum is rooted in somatic and perceptuo-motor training, offering facilitation through practices of alignment and function; range and efficiency; and vocabulary and intention. This dance curriculum has been presented at the National Dance Educators Organization Conference in 2002, the Motus Humanus, Laban Institute of Movement Analysis Conference in California, June 2006 and most recently at the International Association for Dance, Medicine and Science, October 2008.
Jane remains most enamored creating evening-length collaborations featuring the work of artists within diverse art forms; questioning the familiar and probing the unfamiliar; and adoring spontaneous moments of divine intervention living with her four boys in Iowa.

Saturday CI Labs @ Studio 206
Our first series of CI Labs is underway. The labs happen at Studio 206 in the Ivy Building (Minneapolis, MN). The purpose of these labs is to collectively research, question, and investigate confusions, skills, and curiousities related to contact improvisation. Think of it as more open than a class and more structured than a jam. Anyone is welcome to attend. Participants are asked to make a small donation to help cover the cost of renting the space.
Labs occur from 10:30 - 12:30 on the following Saturday mornings:
2/21
2/28
3/14
3/21
3/28
Future labs will most likely be offered.
For more information, please contact Dustin Haug - 612.203.6263 or dustin.haug@gmail.com
